My love for all pet’s began over 30 years ago when I began my journey as a veterinary nurse. For most of my career I have worked at practices in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, and have been fortunate to have travelled and worked in Australia and New Zealand.
I have fond memories of working alongside a mobile vet, travelling along beautiful countryside in a bright yellow ex-ambulance converted into an operating suite. We were pleasantly greeted, ready and waiting with a cuppa and a slice of cake! It quickly became obvious that pets were more relaxed being treated at home. Which saved elderly or anxious pets making unnecessary car journeys, cats being squeezed into a cat box and then having to wait in a crowded vets waiting room.
I work alongside a veterinary cardiologist collecting data from doppler ultrasound scans of the canine heart for a scheme run by The Kennel Club, used to monitor heart health and advice on breeding and early treatment. Some of the breeds screened are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Irish Wolfhounds, Dobermanns and Bulldogs. I feel it’s a worthwhile cause as we are able to early detect abnormalities within the heart that could potentially be passed onto offspring.
I have had an amazing career so why go it alone? I definitely wanted to continue working with animals, my special gift to all animals is to be kind, compassionate, calm, patient and listen (be observant to their needs.) I am experienced with working with all ages, especially elderly and anxious pets.
I am hopeful that being my own boss will allow me the flexibility of being able to work and spend time with my family, which consists of my husband, Matt, two children, Maisie and Freddie and my Trailhound Reggie.
Other interests:
I love walking, either locally discovering Malvern’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or further afield. Earlier this summer I set myself a challenge to walk 26 miles of the Cotswold Way which lasted about 12 hrs and last summer I walked 63 miles (in 24hrs) of the Ridgeway National Trail from Avebury through Marlborough and the Chilterns to Swindon.
I enjoy mountain biking with the family and have explored a few trail centres this summer including Forest of Dean, Cannock Chase, Coed Y Brenin and Nant Y Arian in Wales. Cycling is Reggie’s favourite activity too!
When it’s time to relax a glass of red and a good book will do the trick!
